YES it’s been sort of a slow sports month, outside of college basketball. And did anybody besides Doctor S actually watch the Pro Bowl? Doctor S would have watched the NHL All-Star Game, but there was a “Barbarians” marathon on the History Channel that day. And yes, the Doctor did watch the NBA All-Star Game, but only because he’s a huge Michael McDonald fan.

Thankfully, Budweiser kept the farting horse at home. … Speaking of NASCAR, funny how a sport that was seen as a Southern sideshow as recently as 15 years ago is now No. 2 behind the NFL. One reason has to be that NASCAR has done a better job of marketing its ####### competitors than either major league baseball or the NBA. Many players in MLB and the NBA appear to have a misplaced sense of entitlement. Ditto for many of the owners. … Memo to the owner of any pro sports team: Nobody gives a damn if you’re losing money. Most of the owners in baseball, for example, who are crying poverty are taking their profit-sharing money from the payroll luxury tax and putting it in their pockets rather than using it to pay players. If you can’t afford a pro sports teams, sell it. There are plenty of other millionaires out there ready to buy. Unless, of course, you own a WNBA or WUSA team, in which case nobody’s buying. … Finally, anybody catch “Bad Apple” on TNT? It was a funny crime movie (FBI vs. the Mob) and was the best non-sports thing Doctor S has seen on TV in some time.
